Minister of Transportation and Works
The Honourable Tom Hedderson is now serving the people of Newfoundland and Labrador in his fourth consecutive term. His political career began with his election to the House of Assembly on February 9, 1999 as the Member for the District of Harbour Main – Whitbourne.
During his distinguished career he has served in many roles, including Opposition Critic for Education, Parliamentary Assistant to the Leader of the Opposition, Critic for Youth Services and Post-Secondary Education, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Education and Youth Services & Post-Secondary Education, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, Minster for Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister Responsible for Volunteer and Non-profit Sector, and Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
On November 27, 2009, Mr. Hedderson was appointed to serve as Minister of Transportation and Works and Minister Responsible for the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation. He was re-elected once again on October 11, 2011, and was re-appointed to those duties.
Mr. Hedderson graduated with Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) and Bachelor of Education (English) degrees from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a Master of Education (Psychology) from Mount Saint Vincent University in Nova Scotia. Prior to his political career he was Principal of Bishop O’Neill Collegiate in Brigus.
Mr. Hedderson is the youngest in a family of nine brothers and 10 sisters. He and his wife Rosemary have two children and reside in the community of Georgetown.
