Building Design and Construction Division

Responsibilities

  • Providing building design, advisory and management services to government client departments and to regional Works offices of the Department. Its mandate is to ensure high quality facilities are built on time and within the client’s budget. 
  • The Division offers the following principal services.
    • Technical architectural and engineering advisory services are provided on the planning, implementation and evaluation of building projects for government departments and agencies.
    • Architectural and engineering design services are provided predominantly to support regional Works operations in implementing program expenditures for alterations and improvements to property.
    • Project management services are provided on major buildings projects funded by Government. Project management refers to the delivery system required to provide a quality facility built on budget and on time, from start of planning of the project to occupancy and handover of the building.
    • Overall financial management and tracking of the capital budget for buildings.
    • Document management services:
      • central depository of building plans (project record drawings);
      • registry of building construction contract documents where contract surety bonds have been provided to Tendering & Contracts;
      • technical library of building codes, standards and guidelines, product information catalogues and other technical literature;
      • construction and maintenance of electronic document management system
